The walk leads from warm semi-tropic temperatures via alpine areas of cooler climate to the dry arctic zones at the high altitudes of Trans-Himalayan regions. You will experience dramatic changes in climate and landscapes whilst getting to know the rich Tibetan culture around Manang area and the Mustang villages of Kaligandaki valley.
Annapurna Circuit Trek offers daily views of snow-capped peaks including the world’s three highest mountains Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Manaslu, and Mt. Dhaulagiri.The tour starts with an exciting overland drive to the mid hills of Lamjung area from where you will walk into high Manang Valley passing lovely villages of Dharapani, Tal, and Chame. The trail then leads to a dry and arid terrain around Manang village offering the most stunning mountain views. After a short period to rest and acclimatize, you will cross the impressive Thorang-la pass (reaching an altitude of5,416 m) and walk past the holy Muktinath area before you arrive in Mustang at the Kaligandaki River Valley.
The second part of the trek is characterized by an easier trekking level, rewarding you ascend by showing you the beautiful country of the mountains. Enjoy stunning mountain views while walking into the famous fertile”apple country” of in Jomsom, Marpha, Tukuche area. From there, you will descend further into the warm areas at Tatopani with its fabulous natural hot-springs.
The trek continues to Ghorepani and Poon Hill for stunning sunrise views over an endless chain of Himalayan peaks, through the lovely tree lines of rhododendron and pines to reach back into the low land. Your wonderful adventure will end in the picturesque Pokhara valley.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,315 m), a transfer from airport to hotel, information.
Day 02: Visiting cultural and historical sights in Kathmandu.
Day 03: Drive to Dharapani (1,860 m) - 07 hrs.
Day 04: Trek to Chame (2,670 m) - 05 hrs.
Day 05: Trek to Pisang village (3,200 m) - 05 hrs.
Day 06: Trek to Manang village (3,760 m)- 05 hrs.
Day 07: Rest day in Manang for acclimatization and excursion.
Day 08: Trek to Yak Kharka (4,010 m) - 04 hrs.
Day 09: Trek to Thorang High Camp (4,925 m) via Phedi - 04 hrs.
Day 10: Crossing of Thorang-la (5,416 m) and descent to Muktinath (3,760 m) - 06 hrs.
Day 11: Trek to Jomsom (2,715 m) – 06 hrs.
Day 12: Drive to Tatopani (hot-spring, 1,190 m) - 06 hrs.
Day 13: Trek to Ghorepani (2,860 m) - 06 hrs.
Day 14: Hike to Poon Hill and continue trek to Tirkhedhunga (1,440 m) - 05 hrs.
Day 15: Trek to Nayapul (1,070 m) and drive to Pokhara (860 m) - 05 hrs.
Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu on a tourist bus and transfer to your hotel.
Day 17: Airport transfer, departure from Kathmandu.
Day 01 / Arrival in Kathmandu
On arrival in Kathmandu, you will be picked up from the airport and brought to your hotel. Your guide will brief you about the trip (trekking –hotels - culture with do’s and don’ts) and, if applicable, you will meet other members of the Annapurna Circuit &Kaligandaki trek. In the evening, you are invited to enjoy a welcome dinner with us while watching typical Nepali live music and dancing.
Day 02 / Visiting cultural and historical sights in Kathmandu.
After your breakfast, our tour guide will pick you up and introduce you to the unique flair of Kathmandu, a blend of modernization and old lively cultures. You can witness how the fast growing city evolves around and engulfs medieval period villages and experience the charming mixture of modern life with customs and lifestyle of the locals as it was for hundreds of years.
Kathmandu is a city with outstandingly rich ancient history and old traditions offering a variety of world heritage sites, like famous Durbar Square, as well as numerous impressive Buddhist and Hindu temples, including the great Swayambhunath Stupa (also known as ”Monkey Temple”) overlooking the busy streets of Kathmandu.
After an interesting tour, you will have free time in the afternoon to stroll around the small charming back streets of Kathmandu and prepare for the Annapurna Circuit &Kaligandaki trek.
Day 03 / Drive to Dharapani(1,860 m) via Bhesisar - 07hrs.
Annapurna Circuit &Kaligandaki trekking begins with an interesting and exciting long overland drive on Nepal’s busy highway to reach Bhesisar, a large town headquarters of Lamjung district. After Bhesisar we will be taking an off-road vehicle for the rough and interesting ride following Marsyangdi River past Khudi, Bulbule, Nagdi villages to reach Syange village.
From here, we will leave the river behind and the drive will climb up on the steep road to reach Jagat and Chamje village. We will continue on a scenic road to Dharapani, a nice little village is located on the mid way of the Annapurna circuit and the Manaslu route, for our first overnight stop.
Day 04 / Trek to Chame(2,670 m) - 05 hours.
After breakfast, our morning walk leads along winding a path through rhododendron and pine forest and past Bagachap and Danque village, followed by a steep climb of few hours to Timang village which offers superb views of Manaslu-Lamjung and Annapurna II. Along with our walk, we experience more and more influence by the Buddist culture.
From Timang village we walk downhill to Koto and, after a short slow ascent, we reach the large town of Chame for an overnight stop. Chame is a major town of the Manang district.
Day 05 / Trek to Pisang(3, 200 m) - 05 hrs.
The adventure continues from Chame heading into cooler zones and closer to mountainous regions, as the morning walk leads into the lush alpine forest of rhododendron and pine trees, following the Marshyangdi River upstream. Short up- and down-hill strips bring us to Bhartang village.
After Bhartang village, we cross a bridge over the torrential Marysangdi River and head uphill through alpine woodlands with views of Chulu’s and Pisang peaks. We reach a small settlement around Dukuripokhari around lunch time. In the afternoon we walk downhill to the lower Pisang village for our overnight stop after passing rows of prayer wheels with closest views of Pisang and Annapurna II peaks.
Day 06 / Trek to Manang Village (3,540 m) - 05 hrs.
This easy and gentle day starts in Pisang village with a short walk leading us to a gradual climb into beautiful forests full of pine trees and rhododendron. We reach a small ridge with amazing views of the beautiful Manang valley and mountain tops which we will enjoy a rest. We walk downhill to Hongde, a village with a small airstrip after which the tree lines begin to fade while we are entering barren and dry terrain.
The way continues to Manang village, offering superb mountain views. On the way, we stop for a visit to old Braga monastery which contains old Buddhist relics. From there, we walk another hour and arrive at lunchtime in Manang village where we also spend the night.The afternoon is free for you to enjoy a short walk or just relax and enjoy the views of the snow-capped peaks close by.
Houses around Manang village are built in traditional Tibetan style. Culturally, Manang people are strongly influenced by Buddhist religion and the Tibetan way of life.
Day 07 / Rest day at Manang for short excursion and acclimatization.
Manang is an ideal place for acclimatization before heading towards higher altitudes at the Thorang area.On this rest day, we can explore the surroundings of Manang village during a hike leading us near Annapurna II, the GangapurnaIce Falls, and the dramatic glaciers which feed the turquoise-colored Manangglacial lake.
Day 08 / Trek to Yak Kharka(4,010 m) - 04 hours.
After the pleasant stop at Manang, our morning walk leads to Ghunsang village followed by a gradual climb to reach a small settlement at Yak Kharka. This high altitude path provides superb views of Gangapurna, Anapurna II, and Chulu peak. After few hours scenic morning walk we reach our overnight stop at Yak Kharka. At this second acclimatization day, your afternoon is free to rest your body and enjoy the mountain views.
Day 09 / Trek to Thorong High Camp (4,925 m) - 04 hrs.
Early in the day, we cross the small Jurjungkholastreamas we head towards ThorangPhedi for a short stop to catch our breath on this high altitude. We then ascend steeply on a zig-zag-shaped path for about one hour to reach our highest overnight stop of the adventure at Thorang High Camp at 4,925 m altitude. To sleep at the High Camp provides a great advantage for the crossing of the high Thorang-la pass next morning as we can save energy and time.
Day 10 / Cross Thorong-La (5,416 m) and to Muktinath(3,760 m) - 07 hrs.
A Big Day! And the main highlight of this overwhelming adventure! After early breakfast we start our slow and long ascent to Thorang-La on a winding path, reaching the top at 5,416 m / 17,700 ft.Thorang-la pass is the highest spot of the adventure and one of the world’s highest walking passes offering amazing views of Dhaulagiri and Thorang peak, and as far as to Chulus and DamodarHimal in the Mustang area.
After this exciting experience, we begin our long descent to a village also calledPhedi. From here, we continue on a pleasant path for an hour and reach the holy Muktinath area for our well-earned overnight stop after the hardest day of this adventure.
Muktinath is a holy place for both Hindus and Buddhists. The word “Muktinath” literally means ‘the place for Nirvana or Liberation’. Visit the temple premises with 108 holy water spouts while enjoying grand views of the North Face of Dhaulagiri.
Day 11 / Trek to Jomsom(2, 715 m) - 06 hours.
AfterMuktinath, the second and easier part of the trek begins as we descend to Kaligandaki river valley and reach Jomsom, the headquarter town of Mustang region. The walk in the Kaligandaki River valley is impressive as the dry and arid country provides incredible views of windblown hills and canyons.
A pleasant walk of a few hours brings us to the large town Jomsom, the capital of the Thakali people who are strongly influenced by Tibetan Buddhism.
Day 12 / Drive to Tatopani (hot-springs; 1,190 m) - 06 hrs.
After Jomson, we take a Jeep directly to Tatopani (Hot Spring) village, a beautiful spot within a sub-tropic climate area. Tatopani is famous for its large natural hot spring pools located just by the bank of the River Kaligandaki. Here, we enjoy the well-earned relaxation after the challenges of high altitude and trekking so far.
Day 13 / Trek to Ghorepani(2,860 m) - 06 hrs.
After Tatopani, our morning walk leads across a bridge over Kaligandaki River and continues uphill on a terraced hillside, dotted with farms and villages. After a steep section leading us through the dense alpine forest we first reachChitrevillage and the arrive in Ghorepani village which offers fantastic views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Vara-Shikar also known Annapurna Fang. We spend the night here.
Day 14 / Hike to Poon Hill and trek to Tirkhedhunga(1,440 m) - 05 hrs.
Early before sunrise we hike to the top at Poon Hill to catch the striking sunrise over a fabulous range of Himalayan peaks: world’s 7th highest mountain Mt. Dhaulagiri, world’s 10th highest mountain Mt. Annapurna with its range of sister peaks, world’s 8th highest Mt. Manaslu and the characteristic Machhapuchare peak (also called “Fish Tail” for its peculiar shape).
After an enjoyable and exciting time with the eye-catching views from Poon Hill, we head back to Ghorepani and continue to walk downhill into a marvelous forested area. We then reach Ulleri village and continue our long descenttoTirkhedhungavillage for our overnight stop.
Day 15 / Walk to Nayapul(1,070 m) via Bhirethati and drive to Pokhara.
Our last day of walk leads downhill too much warmer temperatures. We walk past farm fields and terraces pass several interesting traditional Gurung villages before we reach Bhirethati. This place is famous for its beautiful cascading waterfalls. We follow Modi River for a short while to reach the end of our trek, Nayapul.
We are picked up by our Jeep and drive back to picturesque Pokharalocated at the serene Phewa Lake. Here, we can say farewell to the impressive peaks which accompanied us for the last week on the exciting “Annapurna Circuit &Kaligandaki trek”.
Day 16 / Drive back to Kathmandu by tourist bus, transfer to your hotel.
We depart early from lovely Pokhara for interesting and exciting overland journey to Kathmandu which takes about six hours. You are brought back to your hotel and the afternoon is free for your individual activities as you may want to go shopping for souvenirs or enjoy the urban vibe of Kathmandu after 2 weeks in the calm and remote mountains.
(option: There is a very scenic flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu with a superb panorama of mountains and landscapes. It takes about 30 minutes. The prices vary. Please let us know, if you are interested.)
Day 17 / Departure from Kathmandu.
At your last day in our beautiful country Nepal, our staff will transfer you to the airport at any time that is convenient for you.
